Dyrektor Instytutu: dr hab. n. med. Przemysław M. Mrozikiewicz
Summary
The chemical content and origin of propolis collected from bees in Poland, in countries of temperate climatic zone (poplar propolis), Russia (birch propolis), Mediterranean Region, Canary Islands, Canada, Australia, New Zeland, China, Okinawa, Taiwan and tropic propolis collected in Venezuela, Chile, Brasil has been described. The geopropolis has been regarded also. To the group of chemical compounds occurring in propolis from different world regions belong: aromatic acids, and their esters, flavonoids, coumarins, diterpene acids, benzopyrans, benzofurans, prenylated cinnamic acid, caffeoyl quinicacids, diterpene and triterpene. The biological activity of propolis from different world regions is very similar, independent from the place of origin (the antimicroorganisms, immunostimulating, cytotoxic, antioxidative, hepatoprotective activity).
Key words: propolis, origin, chemical content, biological activity
