Summary
The studies included 53 volatile oils of native and foreign origin. Microbiological screening respected MIC in relation to standard strain of S. aureus FDA 209P. The studies were carried out using method of serial dilutions in fluid medium. Than 18 of the most active oils (MIC ≤ 100 μg/ml) have been investigated on the wider bacteria and fungi spectrum of hospital origin: on 2 Gram-positive cocci, 3 Gram-negative bacilli,3 yeast fungi and on 3 dermatophytes. The carried out studies showed that the stronger activity on the Gram-positive cocci of hospital origin exhibited: Ol. Cedri, Ol. Curcumae, Ol. Damianae, Ol. Nigellae, Ol. Salviae miltiorrhizae and Ol. Thymi. No one of investigated volatile oils show in above concentration the activity against Gram-positive bacilli. Against yeasts in low concentration were active Ol. Benzoe, Ol. Damianae, Ol. Nigellae and Ol. Vetiveri. On the base of carried out studies could be concluded that the volatile oils with a strong activity against Gram-positive cocci, yeast fungi and dermatophytes could be used for the treatment of dermatological diseases caused by above mentioned microorganisms. From theoretical point of view the growth of investigated pathogenic microorganisms should be inhibited by external used remedies (ointments, gels, fluids) containing 0,1% of above mentioned oils. For comparison the growth of standard strain of S. aureus FDA 209P was inhibited by 0,1 μg/ml of tetracycline and the growth of standard strain of C. albicans PCM 1409 PZH by 1,0 μg/ml of amphotericine B.
Key words: volatile oils, bacteria, yeast fungi, pathogenic dermatophytes
