Summary
The plant Origanum vulgare is well-known and used by people since the ancient times for rituals, seasoning and enhancing dishes, food preservating, body care, dying fabrics, and curing various ailments. The results of modern research prove the validity of using Origani herba for medicinal purposes, simultaneously pointing out its new usage in prophylaxis and therapies. However, the practical application of such properties of oregano requires the proofs of its efficiency that were obtained during clinical trials. It does not eliminate the possibility of medicinal use of Oregano products in their present form, dosing and indications based on long-standing usage and doctors´ experience.
Key words: origanum vulgare, chemical content, antimicrobial activity, antioxidant activity, medical application
